NOX NOCTURNEby Archon Soulings

Support · Version 1.0

A clear path into your investigation.

Start with your surroundings, make a reference reading, and keep measured data separate from your interpretation.

Quick start

  1. Open Instrument and place the device on a stable surface, away from magnets, speakers and electronics.
  2. Tap Start investigation. Capture begins only when you choose it. Devices without the required sensors show their limitations.
  3. Use the baseline control to establish a reference. Keep the device still while the selected mode gathers enough fresh samples. Easy, the default, uses a noise-tolerant median; Guided uses adjustable tolerance; Precise retains a narrow tolerance. Capture duration depends on sample quality and mode, not just elapsed wall-clock time. This is an experimental reference, not instrument calibration.
  4. Watch for sustained changes and add a note about what you observed. A change alone does not identify its cause.
  5. Tap Stop investigation, then open Guide, log & privacy → Local investigation log to review or export.
How do Yes, No, Maybe and digits work?

Open Your observation for the guided setup and manual choices. You choose Yes, No, Maybe or a digit from 0–9. These choices are your observations; the app does not infer an entity's response from them. Choices on this screen are temporary. Use Save during a recording when you want to retain your observation draft, including any note you choose to add.

Optional experimental pulse mode applies a disclosed convention: the selected Yes/No/Maybe, digit or letter mode defines its own pulse-count rule. Unclear patterns remain unmatched. You must confirm an interpretation before it is saved; the convention is not verified communication.

What does a baseline mean?

A baseline is a short measured reference for comparing later magnetic readings. It is not instrument calibration or a personalized signature for an entity. Movement, nearby metal, magnetic accessories and ordinary electronics may change the readings. Repeat the reference when conditions change.

Why is the sensor unavailable?

Sensor hardware and access vary by device. Check motion access in iOS Settings if the system presents that permission. A simulator does not provide real magnetic measurements. Manual observations and the offline guide remain useful without a magnetometer.

When does recording stop?

Use Stop investigation at any time. Leaving the instrument for another section, opening the log or privacy view, moving the app to the background, or locking protected data stops capture. Returning does not restart capture; tap Start investigation again.

How do I save, share or delete a log?

Saved readings and notes stay on your device. Open Local investigation log to select a session. Export uses the iOS share sheet and a destination you select. Export copies may remain at that destination. Deletion requires confirmation and cannot be undone. Exported logs cannot currently be imported into the app. Logs are excluded from device backups, so export anything you want to keep before removing the app.

Can I reduce the animation?

Use the stillness control in the app or enable Reduce Motion in iOS Accessibility settings. Open individual explanation panels only when needed. The animated body is decorative; capture indicators report activity rather than a paranormal target.

Does version 1.0 include AI answers or audio recording?

Optional on-device guidance uses Apple’s Foundation Models only when this build includes model support, on compatible devices and operating systems with Apple Intelligence enabled and a ready model supporting your language, after you approve the displayed input for each request. Live guidance excludes notes/questions; saved-investigation review includes displayed notes/questions only after a separate opt-in. No cloud model fallback is used. The offline guide remains available without AI. There is no microphone recording, GPS collection, Bluetooth scanning, accessory control or generated audio in this version. Optional RoomPlan scanning separately estimates room geometry and local phone positions after camera permission.

How do experimental ranges work?

The direct Response Setup controls let you select Yes/No/Maybe or Numbers 0–9 and adjust targets and width. Stable preview is opt-in and requires fresh low-motion readings above the noise threshold. Use copies a current suggestion to your draft; Save remains a separate action. Settings are kept in session memory. The separate advanced Ranges control previews one sample, not a sustained match: choose Ranges, select a label and adjust its center and width. Ranges cannot overlap. Preview a fresh stationary reading, review the displayed convention and explicitly confirm before saving. Unmatched readings stay unmatched. Labels are your convention, not detected communication. Pulse mode remains separate.

Can I scan a room?

Supported LiDAR devices can estimate geometry after you choose Start room scan and grant camera permission. Manual mapping remains available. Captured magnetic pins record magnetic readings at the phone’s estimated sampled position, not distant surfaces or a continuous field. No raw video is saved or uploaded. Saved maps and scans are excluded from backups and cannot currently be exported or restored. Delete them separately from logs. Whole-house stitching and cross-session alignment are not supported.

What does the directional cue mean?

The optional cue shows the local magnetic vector measured at the phone, relative to its orientation. It does not locate a magnetic source, measure a spatial gradient, or identify an entity. Stale readings and movement suppress the cue; a pin is a sampled position, not a measurement of distant surfaces.
